Profile: Mr. Dave Ward
Dave Ward has recently joined the Homeward Trust Edmonton team, as the Director of Aboriginal Relations. Deciding to contribute his experience and expertise to this stimulating field with the intention of expanding his awareness and ultimately advance serious initiatives that will have a serious impact on homelessness in Edmonton.
Having previously served as the Urban Aboriginal Community Coordinator (originally with Edmonton Housing Trust Fund) with the Wicihitowin: Circle of Shared Responsibility - Secretariat. Dave has gained a wealth of knowledge surrounding Urban Aboriginal initiatives. The Wicihitowin opportunity has proven to be one of the greatest challenges but it has also been the most rewarding, so far. Wicihitowin has provided a forum for the Edmonton Urban Aboriginal community to engage with the three orders of Government and partners to share the responsibility of improving the situation for all Urban Aboriginal peoples living in Edmonton.
Dave has also played crucial roles with two major AHRDA holders delivering services across the Province and in the city of Edmonton. Having operated in both the frontline service and the upper management area, Dave has a well rounded background and an understanding of how to make AHRDA’s work for the Aboriginal community. They include Oteenow Employment and Training Society as the Employment Centre Director in addition to the Metis Nation of Alberta’s, Labor Market Development Unit as the Operations Supervisor. His experience spans all areas of operations for an Aboriginal Human Resource Development Agreement.
Dave is a proud member of the Driftpile First Nation in Treaty 8 territory in Northern Alberta but has lived Off-reserve in the City of Edmonton for the last several years.
