Profile: Mr. Marty Donkervoort
Marty’s background in government, private enterprise, and the non-profit sector has provided him with the ability to work with and understand each sector. This experience along with his commitment to socially responsible business and governance brings to ICR a level of leadership that enables the organization to achieve its mandate.
Marty has over two decades of experience in community economic development. He was a founding member of the Worker Ownership Development Foundation and Co-op Work, a worker co-operative management consulting enterprise. In the mid 80’s he developed the concept and business plan for A-Way Express, a courier business employing ex-psychiatric patients in Toronto. A business that still flourishes today nearly 30 years later. In 2002, he founded Inner City Development in Winnipeg and is still its general manager.
Born in Rotterdam, his education includes a B.Sc. in Forestry (Timber Engineering), and an MBA with specialty in marketing. Sample of his work experience include publishing the magazine Worker Co-ops, the Voice of Economic Democracy in Canada, owning a management consulting business, and being a senior policy advisor to the Ontario Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment.
